Urgent locating front axle/diff question

Hello all I have an urgent issue I just bought a 2000 GC Laredo 4.0L V6 Selectrac and I need to replace the whole front diff/axle assembly because its bent. I was told I could get the part for about $1200 from a local yard+labor to get it put in. Im looking for cheaper alternatives- I might be able to put it in myself with some help so now the question is how to identify the part and locate it. Ive been doing some research and it looks like its the Dana 30 thats also used on TJ's (not the reverse version), can anyone tell me if thats true? Theres some confusing info out there about the engine types and gears- I saw somewhere 3.07 and 3.77 gears listed but no 4.0L mentioned, just 3.7 and 4.7. Mine is the straight 6 also found in Cherokees and Wranglers. So Im not sure what I need to know besides Dana 30 to find the right part, can it come off a TJ or only a GC and only certain years and they have to be Selectrac I assume (Laredos?). Im not sure how widely the axle I have is used and whether my vehicle's is modified at all from other Dana 30s? I mean the GC is built differently than a TJ or even a Cherokee thats why Im wondering. I probably sound like I dont know what Im talking about so I'll stop right here and if anyone can correct me/provide some answers that would be great, Im considering going to a pull it yourself junkyard this weekend to look for one just need to know what to look for. Thanks

Pretty sure that the axles on a WJ are completely unique. ZJ's and TJ's share axles but we are different so you'll need to find an axle from a WJ. Make sure you get one right the right gear ratio. Either 3.55 or 3.73.

Doesn't matter which 4wd system they have.

Also you have an I6, not a V6

WJ d30's are a little different so you cant swap in one from a TJ/XJ/ZJ. They aren't the right width, bolt pattern, brake brackets, etc.

Oh ok, gotcha. That makes sence

You will need one from a 99-04 only.

Zaq or anyone else, would that axle on ebay fit? Its 3.73 the right ratio but its out of a 4.7L, 4.7L was only on limited v8's with quadrad not selectrac? Would major modifications be needed? Thanks

The pic of the ebay axle sure looks like a rear and not a front to me.....

4.7L V8s came with all 4x4 options. You could get them paired with SelecTrac, QuadraTrac II and QuadraDrive. The QuadraTracII and SelecTrac axles would be the same, the QuadraDrive has the Varilock differentials. I am not sure how well this would work with one of the other two systems. You might want to find out about what 4x4 system he had. Also check the gear ratios (obviously don't want them different front and back or you'd be replacing them both, and probably your transfer case too. )

I thought only a selectrac one would work, the gear ratio is the same as mine, do you have any idea how much it might weigh ballpark for freight? Thanks

You Shouldn't have a problem with any WJ axle as long as the gear ratio is the same.

Quadradrive axles just have a LSD in the front. The only thing different about the qudradrive axle is the shafts and the carrier. But it shouldn't be a problem. It will still bolt in and spin just the same.

Tim, thanks, but do you mean i can most likely replace the entire axle/diff/case with the one from the V8 without mods or just the axle inside? Just checking...
Thanks

Entire axle. Just find any 4x4 WJ with your gear ratio and you are set.

Yep, just like woody said. Just find any axle from a WJ that matches your gear ratio and it will bolt right in and be compatable.
