haha when the kit originally came out it did come with the arms, look on the web for some older magazine articles. Anyway they eliminated them from the kit because you can get away without them $. I just installed the same kit two weeks ago, so I just went to rustys and had them get me a pair of their front uppers for 130bucks worked out just fine. Up to you if you feel like you need them, I do allot of wheeling so I wasnt crazy about the keeping the bent "u" arms.

How many inches can you go before you have to install new ones?

It depends what you do with the Jeep. I would personally say 3" if you twist the suspension up good while wheeling. At 3" I never bent an upper arm. At 4" I ruined 2 sets of stock uppers. One in Moab and one on some hard local trails. For geometry and street driving you are fine up to 4.5" or so. You can always upgrade them later if they bend. It's not likely they will fail and leave you stranded. I drove my bent ones home 1700 miles.

So eventually I'll need to invest in some new ones.
