Two simple questions!

Hi,

I have a couple of quick questions:

1) I am installing a new Crankcase breather/filter. In my haynes manual is says that when servicing one you should pour alcohol through it and then engine oil to lubricate it. Is this the case with a new one or is it a straight replacement? I can see the filter inside is bone dry - has anyone replaced one of these before?

2) I was reading on kevinsoffroad.com about the steering braces. I have noticed my steering is getting very loose of late and wondered about tightening the bolts for the steering box - where are they?! I have stock tires on so probably don't need the heavy duty brace - probably need tightening. I am thinking about a new trackbar or at least new bushings - any suggestions?

Thanks again!

1) You don't need to lubricate the new one. The reason why there is a wire mesh
inside is to stop oil from your engine to get in the air box and at the same time to let it breeze without restriction. And yes, I would just replace with the new one, it's like $4 or so at auto store

2) You don't need that steering brace. It would help you only if you have monster tires under there, although I would just upgrade steering box in that case.
There are 3 bolts inside your driver front wheel well. Your Haynes manual has it on page 10-18 pic.16.6a. If you still don't have the manual I would just go and get one at AutoZone or any other autostore. They are like $15 or so.

On the other hand if wire mesh is too dry it could rast and fall inside. Mine always has lil oil on it as some of it just gets blown out on that filter. If your previous one was bone dry just pure some oil inside to stop it from rusting.
