Trunk Latch

Here's the problem. Today my father went to open the trunk of my jeep and as he was pulling on the handle, he hears a snapping noise. The trunk opened but, like a dummy, he closed it again. Now it's stuck closed. Common sense tells me that its the trunk latch. Would anybody know how i can get it to open or get to the latch from the inside?

Thanx

The adjustable handle rod proably came off. Pull the top of the hatch trim panel back (four screws) from inside and reach down to pull the rod to open the hatch. Then you can pull the whole panel off to fix it. Sometimes the metal clip needs to be bent a little tighter for a better fit. Adjust the rod where the handle feels the best.
