so other than testing sidewalls do they just give you any old sidewall? BFG, goodyear, toyo etc...on the tread you order?

They make sure they match the tires for your set and I think you can request what sidewalls you want.

I asked for BFG carcasses and I got them. Make sure you say matching set otherwise you may not get it.

These are great tires. DD for over a year on the MT's. They are not really loud compared to other MT's I have had in the past. They work great in the snow for me but I have a locker also. I don't really consider these 31's as a true MT b/c there isn't that much space between the lugs. They are somewhere between an AT and a MT. You can hit the mud or you can go out on the beach plus you don't get that loud roar you do w/ most MT's. As someone else said it's more of a hum.

They automatically give you matching sidewalls. Are you saying they changed this policy?

Search "goodyear MTR" on google and that should answer your other questions.
I googled it and read a lot of reviews. Very mixed reviews in sand and mud. This is what i deal with the most. Are these bad reviews from people that dont know how to drive? Anybody have first hand experience with sand and mud in these?

Also, I have heard mixed feeling on airing down the retreads. Any thoughts on this as well?

Sounds like you need mud tires, not MTR's. Although im not sure how mud tires normally do in sand.

I always air down to like 15 psi, never any problems.

Why do they say airing down is bad??

Well, sand is my main priority. The mud is more of an occasional thing.

I have heard that airing them down increases the chances of the tread separating from the sidewall. Also, according to treadwrights website, they do not cover the tire if it has been aired down. They will replace your tire if there is separation under normal driving conditions, but not if it has been aired down. That said, I am pretty sure that is the same for any tire. Difference with these is that you can replace it yourself for $85 instead of almost $200 a tire.

Actual size of 31" Guard dog?

Can you guys tell me thew actual size of 31" Guard dog?

Most 31" tires are 30"

their site says 31"

I'd like to get 32"s butt this price is too good to pass and if they are actually 31" I'm sold....
