Transmission pump leak...need advice quickly.

Hey guys...my mechanic told me that my transmission pump has failed causing a leak at the seal. My tranny does leak...but would a transmission pump failure cause a leaking seal...or is it that the seal cant stop all the fluid from leaking?
He quoted me $1250 to fix it!
I do have a warranty...but it does NOT cover leaking or broken seals.
I need some advice please.
Thanks so much!

I just paid 450 for new seals and trans flush, sounds high to me but i dont know where to find a pump, maybe time to swap trans. It would be around 400 labor and the cost of the trans

Thats what I am asking you guys? Does that make sense?
He said the pump if shot, and that is what is causing the leak.
He also said he's really not sure if the seal is busted or not until he takes it apart to make sure. However...can a broken pump cause a seal to fail? Or could the tranny fluid leak past the seal if the pump is broken and leaking a lot of fluid?
I obviously have NO idea about transmissions.
Thanks for the help.

What I would do is make an account here and ask the question in the Ram or Dakota forum. The 360 46RE combo is very common in Dodge trucks. These guys have helped me out with tranny questions quite a bit.http://dodgeforum.com/forum/

BTW...is it a hard job to replace the front seal (if broken) or the pump on a 5.9L transmission?

replacing the seal is easy, dropping the trans is the hard part... i dont have a lift or way to move the trans out from under the body so i had to take it in

Some shops around me can almost fully beef up/overhaul a trans for that price. Well depending on what you want 1k-2k anyways.

If your gonna spend that much id look into something like that. Spending that much money why not beef it up a tad as well? Just my .02
