Transmission Identification

How do I (easily) tell if my '93 JGC with a 4.0L has the AW4 Tranny or the 42RE?

Go to your local Dodge service dept and give them your VIN number, they can print off the factory build sheet for you and then you'll have all the info on what your Jeep came with.

Or you can do that online...

Or you can look for the ribbed tranny pan. AW4 has a ribbed pan.

Half the time it's covered and grease and impossible to find. The other ways are the easiest.

Thanks!

Thanks to all that responded. It appears that I have the 42RE. Which is good news in the fact that I might have a bad neutral safety switch which is about $12-15 as comapared to $200+ for the AW4
