Transmission fluid leak.

I have recently noticed a trans fluid leak under my jeep. Not sure if it was due to weather changes or not but it wasn't there before. I got under it and there is a small chunk of aluminum missing from where one of the transfer case bolts go into the trans. Would it be ok to use a bottle of transmission stop leak or something like that? Here is a pic of the hole.

And if it is, I'd just slap some RTV gasket maker into the hole, that'll do the trick. Although if it's leaking out of that hole it is probably your transmission's rear seal thats leaking.

That hole is there to vent the area between the trans and t-case. It also lets you know if the t-case or trans seal is leaking. If you seal it with silicone you have a chance of cross contamination between the fluids in the trans & tcase. Best thing to do would be to drop the t-case and change both seals. DO NOT put silicone on the mating surfaces between the cases when reinstalling.

Absolutely not! Jeep transmissions are finicky to anything other than AFT+3 and +4

As stated the transfer case and transmission do not share fluid.

Get the seals from the dealer, for the best fit.

Is that hole really supposed to be there? Well since the t-case and trans do not share fluids then there would be no reason for fluid to be there, unless the rear seal is leaking. Would a rear seal leak if there was too much fluid in the trans? And would a rear seal leak cause low pressure. What I mean is when I put the jeep in say reverse and step on the gas it takes a few seconds before the jeep actually moves. i have already replaced the gov solenoid and pressure sensor. Is the rear seal a tough job?

It sounds like your trans is low on fluid.

As I said the transfer case and trans dont share the same fluid but depending on the tcase they do use the same type of fluid.

Theres a seal on the rear of the trans and on the front of the transfer case, so just seeing red fluid in between doesnt really say which is leaking. Fairly certain the little gap left is to let you know something is leaking.

The seals are fairly easy to replace. Remove rear drive shaft drop transfer case pull seals and tap back in.

Ive had to replace my transfer case once and the seals on both so ive done it several times.. I have found its easier to leave the crossmember in place though as some will say to remove it.
