Transmission and 5.2L question

My brothers 1994 GC Limited 5.2 AWD is in the transmission shop, they want $700 to take apart the transmission to determine what is causeing it to shift out of 1st gear at very very low RPMS and won't stay in 1st gear. I think 700 is a rip off just to tear it down to see whats wrong. on avarage how much should a remanufactured trannie go for.

the 5.2 has 100,000 miles on it, based on your expierence with this engine, how does the reliability and longevity rate?

i don't know the answer to your question but i know other people have experienced the same problem. i would run a search for the subject see how they got it resolved. 700 seems like a big rip off to me as well. good luck!
