Transfer or Tranny Help Please

I got a 93 jeep cherokee with 5.2 all time 4wd today guy told me trans was rebuilt and it needed a transfer case but when u crank it from cold you can drive till it warns up then stops driving does that happen in t case or could the tranny be bad too? And which tranny is it.

ax15 is a 5 speed manual. it came in some ZJs in 93 and early 94, but its extremely rare, IIRC there was only around 1400 made between the 2 years. your transfer case is an NP249. someone more experienced in transmissions will have to chime in on your issue.

The AW4 is the other tranny that came in the 93 model. It was only for the 6 cyl though. You have the 46RH since you have the V8. Never heard of the transfer case cause your condition. Are you low on trans fluid?

Previous owner could have lied to you or had it rebuilt in 1994. Did you get any paperwork on the rebuild? Does the fluid smell burnt at all?

Case won't do that, transmission might if the filter is possibly plugged or the fluid is bad.

what do you mean when you say it stops driving... Are you driving and then it shuts off? and wont start? or its starts and wont move in gear when hot? Sorry but this needs a some detail to tell you more.

A better idea of what you checked or replaced would help also.
