Transfer Case Swap Help

so i was going through the swap with no issues and then all of a sudden...

i was pulling the 249 and when i started separating the tcase from the trans i had a bunch of fluid start leaking out it is red in color and was coming out of the rear and i would say probally a quart or quart and a half came out of the back of the transmission (well i think thats where it came from)

as i was moving the transfercase the rear output (mine had the metal housing over the slip yoke it leaked out a bunch of fluid also..

and they looked similar in color..

so is it safe to say my rear seal on the trans is gone?

or was the fluid coming from the front of the transfer case?

i dont know and i need my jeep fixed asap i am going to do the rear seal tomorrow but is that much coming out normal?

should i be checking for other problems?

any help or input is appreciated...

did you drain the fluid from the transfer case prior to unbolting it? and, if you lowered the tranny any then that is why the fluid came out from the tranny, it's completely normal. also, if you did drain the transfer case prior to removing like you're supposed to, it will still probably leak some fluid that didnt get completely out when drained, just pull it off and take a look at the seal

as far as them looking similar in color, that's because they are BOTH ATF fluid. tranny and transfer case both take the same fluid
