transfer case stuck in 4wd?

is the front driveshaft supposed to move when in 2wd? i know it sounds dumb but i never noticed and its been a while since i owned a 4wd

Yes, it will rotate, even in 2wd on a ZJ.
There are no locking hubs, or vacuum disconnect on these, so everything rotates all the time. Just not engaged to the power train in 2wd.

ok thats good to know. and also today i just noticed that whenever i put it in drive or reverse going from park it makes this ping noise then it will do i a couple more times when i accelerate, and thats it until i go from park to drive or reverse

i think it sounds like somthing with the driveshaft im not sure. anyone have any ideas?
