Transfer Case Linkage

Last night I drove home in the snow in part time 4x4, this morning when I was driving I shifted back into 2 wheel drive but it did not feel like the t-case shifted into 2 wheel. When turning on pavement, the Jeep felt like it was still in 4x4 mode I got to my parking lot and turned into a space I could feel some wheel hop so I know for sure that it is still in 4x4 even though the shifter is at the 2 wheel drive spot and the light is not on.

I messed around a little in the lot trying to get it out but I did not have any success, backing up and all of that. I could get it to go into 4 low and back but never into 2 wheel dive.

I did a little searching and am thinking maybe I need to adjust my transfer case linkage, but I was not able to find out exactly how to do that. Could anyone help me out with that or have any other ideas.

If you get under the Jeep and find the linkage, you'll see there is a pinch type bolt that secures a clamp to a 6 or 8 inch long rod (that's where you can adjust it).

Loosen that pinch bolt and pull back on your shift handle a bit then re-tighten the pinch bolt and shove the shifter back to 2WD. Should work. You might have to adjust it a couple times to get it just right.

Does that mean that I need to get a new shift cable rather then just making an adjustment for the WJ.

When I was driving later today I kept shifting in and out of 4x4 and it finally went into 2 wheel drive, are shifting linkage problems intermittent like that?

put it in 2wd, lift one of the front tires keeping the other on the ground and rotate it till you hear the transfer case click. that will put you in 2wd mode, if it doesn't check for slack in the linkage.

Can you get it into 4FT to at least avoid binding while trying to figure out how to get it into 2wd?

I definitely need to check the fluid level, I just need it to warm up a little more. Thanks for all the help.
