TransCase Mystery

ok here's my thing, and i would like some input....
i have a 93 zj, 5.2; as far as everything i see it should have had an NP231 in it, the tag in back says its a NP242. heres my problem, the drive chain has done gone out and i want a new one. do i go with the drive chain per the 242 like i think i should, or the drive chain that comes up when searching "drive chain for a 93 grand 5.2" (when found is for the 231).

Can you verify the modes on the transfer case shifter? Then we will know what Transfer case you have. There's rumors that the early ZJ v8 could've left the factory having the 2wd option, but its extremely rare.

Definitely the NP242. Search up a chain for a NP242 with your year. May have to do the 4.0 to get the right chain for it.

Edit: extremely rare btw, take care of her.

this is what i have thought. this is the case everyone wants right? which brings up the next question, the chains i have found for the 242 all say a 4.0 or an XJ. that doesn't really matter, the case is the case no matter make?

If it left the factory, request a build sheet (link in the FAQs), its an amazing find. I plan on swapping a 242 or 231 in place of my 249.

Here's a chain for ya.
