Trans/throttle cable adjustment

With 74K miles, my 95 ZJ is shifting more harshly, mainly part-throttle upshifts in town, usually when backing off the throttle. Service writer says the only adjustment is to the transmission throttle cable. Any way I can check/adjust this myself? Dealer is an hour away and I need to take a day off work to get anything done there. BTW 60K service was done, including trans oil & filter change. Didn't help the harshness at all. Thanks guys!
