Tranny problems 96 ZJ

I got a problem my friends and I am hoping yall may be able to help me out a bit with this. I have a trans fluid leak I could not pinpoint. I use trans fluid in my power steering and that was low so filled that, the very next day I smelled my trans. I checked the fluid level, no fluid in the transmission. Tracked every line every conection and found the problem and fixed it. But ever since then my trans does not shift when its hot. I manually have to shift from 1 to 2 to drive when shes hot. The trans shop said it would run me around $2000 to fix. I dont have that money. Figure someone may have had this issue before and may know where to point me. I am not sure if its the torque converter, an electrical solenoid/sensor or whatever it may be. Any thoughts about this? Any help is good help. Trans fluid level is full now, has been for about 4 months since it first started. Fluid is the nice red on the stick. I put her in reverse last night and could hardly make it in reverse. Please help!

Did the shop tell you what was wrong?? Did they find pieces in your tranny pan?? That will give you the most information....if they quoted 2000 bucks I would want to know exactly what was wrong that they decided to charge that

Where was the leak? Make sure fluid level is correct, check running in neutral. Check for fault codes

My 2000 XJ was doing the same thing and I replaced all three Solenoids in the Pan and while there the filter and fluid. Its as good as New Now. (I had to Manually shift it and then it got to where it would die if put in Reverse)

Do this, It ends up being like 200 or so bucks but its a good gamble verses paying 350 just to "see" whats wrong. An IMO you cant always trust these guys at the shops.
Worst case is that you end up spending 2,200 insted of 2,000, but I think its a good gamble, because it is whats wrong with these things half of the time.
