hey guys well im not getting any responces in the drivetrain section so ima try here.

well the other day i put a new tranny in my jeep, well when i started it up and going into reverse when the engine is cold its jus stalls out and it only happens in reverse. now if i drive a bit and then try to back up, its fine. sooo it doesnt really make sence to me. and also theres this weird like thump/jerk thing goin on under the jeep mainly noticed when i get off the gas then back on.

any ideas as to whats going on?

hey guys, well still trying to find an answer here. today i cleaned out the oil cooler as my local tranny shop said to do jus toi get any metal outa there.

but my jeep is still stalling in reverse whe nits cold, works fine in reverse after u drive it a bot, and with the trhump/jerk thing going on, ive noticed it only happens when i hit 50mphand with OD off at about 40mph or so. im not sure what it is and never heard of anything like it b4.

i hope someone will b able to help me here cause ive been having problems getting help with this one on here.

the thump seemed to stop since it didnt do it at all on the way home but the reverse thing i still need help with

and the jerk thing is still happenin, it feels like someone drops a big weight ontop of the jeep when i hit 50mph and will do it again if i let off the gas and back on at that speed. heard somethin about the OD solonoid(i know thats not spelt right)

didnt know getting help on this would b so hard

start with the torque converter clutch solenoid. that is most likely the cause of both issues.

anyone have any picture or can tell me where this torque converter clutch solenoid is. i cant find anything and ive been looking through my Haynes manual its got nothin

i think it is in the pan never actually seen it with my own eyes though

ok thanks, i thought it would b there too. maybe tomorrow ill just go check out a new one at pep boys and then ill know what to look for

hey guys, well i called up my tranny guy and he talked about me needing to replace my check ball in the trans cooler cause that is causing the reverse stall since im not getting back flow or something like that. he also said the jerk thing is probly the solenoid.

what do u guys think?

both the stall in reverse and jerking is a symptom of a bad tcc solenoid. the cooler line check valves rarely go out. it's just a ball and spring in a cone anyways.

hmm ok, thanks.

well i ordered that check ball thing today at the dealer, cost me $40 but if i dont need it its just a waste. i cleaned out the cooler and was able to push the ball in with no problem which im sure is how its suposted to b. maybe i will try and return it and try the tcc solenoid first

alright guys well i returned that check ball thing and got the solenoid, called the over drive solenoid in their system, cost me $93.

so ima put it in when i get back from riding this weekend and we'll c how it goes
