Trailer hitch install

Hey, I just wanted to share what I did the past 2 days. I own a 96 grand cherokee that does not have a tow package. So I went to a local pick N pull and picked a trailer hitch up for about $25. It was quite a pain to remove and even more of a pain to install.

I had to break some bolts and install some new ones. Glad its finally done! Also the wiring was already inside the jeep. I did happen to pull all the wiring from the jeep I took it from just in case.

are you aware that you could get one installed brand new for free at the dealer? There was a recall. Is that the factory tow hitch?

He couldn't if he needed the hitch now. Last I heard was August before the recall parts were scheduled to be available.

Yes, I'm aware of the recall. I'm moving soon, so this was just a better option.

roger that...I'm trying to decide if I should take advantage of the recall or not...I have plans in the future to get rear armor hopefully with the receiver built in so i'm not sure it's worth it??? Anyone else have this dilemma?

Wait til you decide to add a gas tank skid plate. Now that's fun!

Did you or does anyone looking at this tread, happen to get a pic of where the trailer wiring is hidden at? I know that if you have the towing package it is supposed to be behind a panel, but I didn't want to rip panels off without knowing as they are starting to get old and removing anything on this Jeep in the interior means a new rattle or vibration afterwards lol

Good lord, don't remind me...scored a skid off of ebay last summer. Decided that I'd drop the hitch and clean up the rust on it before putting the skid on. Really not looking forward to ever having to drop the fuel tank on mine now.

The wiring on my 94 enters through a grommet on the drivers side rear.

I would guess you didn't get the email for a jeep dealership. About the Recall. A jeep dealership will install one of those for free on any ZJ because of a fire hazard with the tank

He said he was aware but couldn't wait because he's moving soon.

My Jeep has one from the factory...I've had it off a couple times and the aftermarket hitch...it's heavy to get them both on, but it can be done.
