Towing capacity?

Anyone know what the towing capacity is for a JGCL with the 5.2 litre V8?

Thanks

A little more information would help in answering this question.

What year?
Does it have the towing package?
What class hitch are you using.

The max for my 1993 ZJ with towing package and class III hitch was 6500 lbs. I don't remember the tongue weight but it was at least 300 lbs.

Yes, your right. It's a 1998. There wasn't a hitch on the vehicle, but I put a class III to haul my 2 Sea Doos around. But I just bought a 24' boat. The boat and trailer are 6,200 lbs. So far I haven't carried it further than 30 min down the road to the lake. Next year I'd like to take it further to larger lakes for long weekends, but I'm afraid wether the Jeep can handle the task.

Does your ZJ have a tranny cooler? If not, you could add one. That would help keep it cool. Also, make sure you are running brakes on the boat trailer and you should be OK. You may need to beef up the rear shocks or replace them with adjustable shocks to support the tongue weight.

Towing capacity is most dependant on whether or not it has the factory tow prep package. In the owners manual it will list which equipment is different and what the rated capacity is. If you don't know then you can PM me with the last 9 of your VIN with current mileage and I can check into it.
