Maybe a dumb question but where in the front of my zj can i hook a strap. maybe the triangle shaped opening on the radiator mounts?

The only place on the front is a set of hooks mounted to the proper brackets, or an aftermarket options like the KOR rad support. Hooking to the bumper cover is going to just rip it off, the rad support with bend and rip and the axle is just asking for a ton of trouble.

Personally, I won’t even get my strap out before making sure the person I’ll be pulling has proper mounts. I value my life and my Jeep too much to risk otherwise.

No where is safe if you don't have the factory hooks or an aftermarket recovery solution

Are you asking about straps to haul your jeep on a trailer or to pull you out when you are stuck?

Nowhere is a good idea except for stock locations. Here are pictures of the stock front/rear tow hooks. I bought these immediately after I had to use my axle tube to get pulled out.

Mopar factory front hook kit... (minus two bolts and a nut on the left side lost in shipping)
Note the inner reinforcement plates.

(don't need loop #15 with hooks)
