Tow hooks

I'm going to pull a part in a few and figured I'd ask on here before I carry a 50 lbs tool box around. What size sockets/wrenches do I need to take them off?

I had to use SAE on the bolts mounting the hooks, but a larger metric, i'm thinking 17 mm or higher on the bolts to the frame. Had to use adjustable for the SAE ones. Also, bring 1/2 drive for the frame ones as the ones I tried to get off were on there quite good and a longer handle would have been much nicer.

Most of the front end is 15mm and 17mm

Got a set of an orvis. One side came of in tact but took forever and the other side the bolts snapped in the piece that goes inside the frame. Alls I used was an 18 in break bar and 1/2 in ratchet.

when i got my JY tow hooks and brackets, 3 bolts snapped off, so i cut the old nuts off the backing plate and welded on some regular nuts. the factory ones are nylon lock nuts and a major PITA to work with in such a tight space. now i just used lock washers and theyre been there for 3 months and havent loosened up a bit.

I'm just gonna leave the nuts on there since I can't weld. But I got the 4 broke studs out pretty easily. Heated me up with a propane torch til I knew the lock tite was on fire/melted I used vice grips to twist me out. Nice and clean now lol

An Orvis, good grab. All I can find is basic laredos and if I do find one near a 98 they are 2wd. There are about 15 jeeps at the one near me and none have a sunroof I am looking for. I did get the hooks but because I did not have a hammer and prybar to get the other bracket off due to body damage, when I went back they had crushed it. So I got the hooks but no brackets.

Ya I wanted to take the seats too but the windows were smashed out so they were ruined

The bracket is really nothing more then a peice of steel with nuts welded on it.. Grab some steel take a drill and line the hole up and mark em and drill hole in them and there is your bracket

I don't know, it might be easier to make a whole bumper than to engineer these brackets.Looks like a PITA.

What did you pay for the hooks? Curious as to what a JY will charge for them.

Just the basic hooks are like 8-10 bucks new. Warn hooks are like 18.
