Tool to remove Power Steering Pump Pulley? A few questions...

Hi all,

Luckily I pulled out of rush hour traffic before my power steering pump seized on me & leaked out all the fluid.

I have an idea of how to remove the pump, seems simple enough, but my question is... Will I need a special puller of some sort to remove the old pulley to the new pump? Is it held on by a torx screw?

Also, seeing as tho it seized up on me or close to it, I probably have debris in the fluid, so I'm thinking I'll need to completely flush the power steering fluid from the gear box? Could I have done any damage to the gear box? Is there a chance of debris being in there?

And last, what type of fluid is required? Just your normal day to day PS fluid?

Thanks!

I agree with black.. rent the puller and then return it. a flush is probably a good idea.

160K on my jeep and i haven't personally flushed the fluid yet. Its on my todo list this spring.

What about the torx screw?
The reason I ask, it was late when I pulled in & it appeared to have a bolt holding the pulley in place, but couldn't tell if it was a hex head or torx?

Thanks guys!

There shouldn't be any bolt holding the pulley on, it's a pressure fit design

We finally got another Jeep after 5 years without. Too bad it's ALL stock.

I want to add to his last question. If the pulley is already off( let's say it exploded) do you need the pump off to replace it? And is there anything else I must do beside put a new pulley on and belt? Sorry if I hijacked ur thread here but I just so happen to read this post then my wife called saying the power steering went out
