Took My Rear Drive Shaft to Pete's Welding This AM

And for $145 he's:
1) lengthening it 1" - had me on the ground measuring!
2) retubing it - talked me out of .083 - says I'll just break something else and I now have a spare to carry with me.
3) Balance
4) New Ujoints
5) Paint

Cool guy - he looked at all my DSs - my 2 front ones are currently riding shotgun. Told me the plan is to take it one DS at a time!
Pete's is in Trenton, NJ!

Phil

The name of the place is almost as good and the drive shaft shop that I use, Dick's Drive Shaft. Everyone in Phoenix knows that if you need a shaft you go to Dick's.

Is he going to balance the shaft as well? Very important with running low gears.

Next time you go there let me know. I'll meet you there. I love going to machine shops.

Found it. He’s on Olden Ave. That’s 4.5 miles away from work. I could have been there this morning and provided the coffee & donuts.!

I've had my rear drive shaft retubed twice. Once was a rock ledge and the other time I just a little aggressive and landed on it.

Pete’s Welding seems to be very reasonable!

Actually I didn't know I was going there this morning but I work out of home and my internet connection went down and I needed to be online to do the work I needed to complete, so I waited, and waited and then decided I'd run down there and hopefully I'd be up and running when I got back and it was.
Yes he's balancing it also.
I'll likely pick it up a week from Monday. I'm not in any hurry and I'm real busy next week!
Phil - no I'm not shaftless, just driving a spare!

That welding shop has been there for decades. Pete, naturally was the one that started the business, then came Charlie Farreny, then his sons Harry and Freddy. Haven't been there for years so don't know who's running the shop now. They've made custom headers, driveshafts, engine/trans mounts, suspension components etc. for me. Naturally that was many years ago. They were really slick with their welding!

It's a small world. I didn't get his name but 2 mechanics both recommended him highly!
