tire pressure

What is a good PSI for my tires for mostly on-road use? The sidewall gives a maximum weight limit at 40, and at 50 PSI. IS 40-50 PSI generally what SUV tires should be filled up to? It seems a lot higher than the 32 PSI that most passenger car tires call for.

1993 ZJ Limited 5.2 - no mods - Red with Gold (what were they thinking) trim.

I have 235/75-15s, and I run 35# front, 32# rear - and on trips when loaded with luggage etc, 35# all around. So far I have about 40K miles on the Michelins and they're wearing evenly (rotated every 5000 miles), so for me that's about right.

You should be running around 32 with stock size tires. The 40 to 50 is the MAXIMUM tire preasure to run when the vehicle is loded down. On the inside of your door it will tell you the recomemded tire preasure.
