Timing belt ?

does my 96 zj 4.0 have a timing belt?

I ask because i know in the past cars should have them replaced around 75k or so otherwise they can cause serious damage when they fail. My jeep is at 95k but I don't see anyone here ever mention timing belts? Thanks

No it has a chain that does not need to be replaced. Truck engines typically do not use timing belts.

Oh good.... Thanks.

Any other routine maintainence I should be doing around the 100k mark?

I just bought the jeep 2 months ago so I plan on doing the usual stuff, plugs wires cap rotor, probably a new fuel filter too.

Also want to flush and replace coolant, tranny, front and rear diffs and TC fluids.

It already has a new alternator, battery, and Crankshaft sensor (had the infamous crank-won't-start problem, the new sensor pixed it for me)

any other basic stuff I should do at 100k? Thanks

Your fuel filter is in your fuel tank and is part of the fuel pump assembly. Just so you know.

Air filter should be on the short list.

Is it? I thought it was outside the tank... Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing underneath my jeep then... lol. It did look like the fuel filter pic I was looking at online though.

On your '96 it might me. Thought it changed to in-tank in '96 but I could certainly be mistaken.

I think the 96 did have a filter. I could be wrong. The WJs did but not all the ZJs did. Looks like your list is pretty complete.

My '96 ZJ has a fuel filter in plain sight in front of the fuel tank. Very simple to change.
