Throttle Valve Cable Replacement (TV cable)

So, today while adjusting my TV cable I managed to snap the plastic bit that connects to the throttle valve. Whoops. So, 80 dollars goes to the stealership for a new cable...

Anyway, the cable should be coming in tomorrow, and I've never replaced one of these. Anyone have any pointers for the best way to go about this?

For those looking to adjust your TV cable, here's a tip - unlike some of the other connectors that attach to the TV this one you pull towards the FRONT of the vehicle, not straight off

It's fairly easy. There are clips attaching the cable to various things like the oil dipstick and transfer case vent tube. It connects to the transmission with a ball and socket type connector, then it un-clips from the bracket. When you route the new one, make sure the bends are smooth and not forced, and that it's not rubbing against anything moving or hot.

For initial adjustment, pull the white clip outward from the assembly, open the throttle to WOT, then push the clip back in.

Want to swap an NP242 or NP231 into your ZJ? Here's how:

Anybody ever fix one of these or know a cheaper place to get one? I did the exact same thing. Part number?

I just swapped mine this week and the one bit of advice I would give is if you haven't yanked the first one out... Tape the new one to the old one so that as you pull old one the new one snakes into place. Tape it with a taper so it doesn't snag anything along the way. Also the new ones from the dealer have a different adjustment. You push the tab with arrows in with one hand and slide the cable jacket with the other.

New... like this?

My '94 came from the factory with one of these!

Was it only on the V8's where they used the clip style?

My 1995 limited v8 had this push button style. My 5.9 has the clip.

Try this!

Below is a link to a replacement clip that simply slides onto existing cable.
Works great on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L, took about 5 min to install if you include crushing the old one up to take it off.
Modeled after the original that broke on my jeep. Didn't want to install a new cable for something so small and seemingly easy to fix....

For a shorter style for older jeeps? Try this clip http://shpws.me/H32m

Please let me know what ya think, how it works for you, or doesn't work right. Can be tweaked, just ask.
