Thinking about a transfer case swap

Summer is getting close and am thinking of things to do. I don't think my transfer case is working because I don't have Neutral or 4wd low working. I am thinking about doing a 249>242 swap. My question is, which ones should I look at? Will the ones from a 4.0l work? what about the ones from a wj?

Love that pic CLNinja....ohhhh sooo true. Mr kmk108....please check out the faq (FREQUENTLY asked questions) section on here. There are many topics on benefits and so forth and who likes what t case. I myself did a 242 swap just so I wouldn't have to ever worry about the vc (viscous coupler) going out on the 249. I would suggest that you get the same model year...but please check out the faq's.

ok. flaming can cease. I always forget to do check the FAQ. new question. I read something about taking the driveshaft from the 242 and making sure the slip yoke is right. If i did a slip yoke eliminator at the same time, will that solve the slip yoke and driveshaft issue?

I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Ever since i put my lift in, it hasn't worked. I can pull the selector all the way down and all the way up with nothing happening. Im wondering if the link to the transfer case is broken or disconnected. But I want to do the swap anyway.

I wasn't flaming you Bro...though I did like the pic. I saw your post count and assumed that you may not have known about the faq section...I wasn't flaming you.
As far as the drive shaft issue...when doing a swap....lets say from a 249 to a 242...then you will need to swap out input/output (some people look at them differently) shaft from the 249 to the 242...that way you will not have to shorten the ds. Also ensure both have the correct spline count. Also I would have a look at the linkage...but if swapping then no need to.

look at your linkage... guarantee something came loose in the linkage ( very easy fix ) if your able to very easily move your shifter forward and back without and resistance

No problems. I didn't want to turn the thread into a noob bashing lol. basically I'm learning about the way my jeep works as things break lol. I'm pretty stupid when I start, but I learn easy. So doing the SYE and driveshaft change when I do the transfer case swap won't matter?
