Temperature Gauge swinging

Hi There, this is my first post, I bought days ago a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and while driving from Houston to my Home in Laredo (Texas), the Temperature gauge started swinging from 210 to the next lower point, then stayed there for about 5 seconds and then went again to the 210 mark, stayed at 210 for 5 seconds and then again swing to the next lower mark......? What can be wrong....? Water Temp Sensor....? Faulty Radiator Cap.....? The Jeep runs smoothly with no problems at all and the water temp is good.

Probably a bad sensor or sending unit. They run about 10-12 bucks. I'd give it a shot.

Is it easy to replace the thermostat in this engine....? 6 cyl 4.0 in line....! What do I need to remove to get the thermostat out and replace it with a new one.......? Do I need a kind of sealer or just put the thermostat and that is . . . ?

never done one. can't be too hard though...
get yourself a Haynes or Chiltons book. $15 well spent. checkc at an Autozone. those'll tell you an awful lot.
can anyone help on the thermostat swap?

I just get the thermostat off my Jeep hours ago, so I went to an autozone to get the thermostat, the thermostat seal, and the gasket for the housing, get off is easy, so I guess is easy to put the new thing on !!! I'll make the gasket my self, hope this work will be easy !!! I'll post results tomorrow, ok.....?

The temperature gauge swinging problem just went away !!! The thermostat was replaced with sucessfully results ! Now the temperature gauge is more stable and the temperature lower (180 grade Thermostat installed) ! The only problem about changing the thermostar is the lower 1/2" bolt in the housing is obstructed by the band, really hard to get this bolt off, but finally the work is done !

Thanks all for your advice !
