Hello, i have read and read the transfer case swap stickie, but i still cannot find the answer to my question. Will any 231 from an xj be a direct swap for my niner? As i understand it, the input shaft length should be the same. Is this correct?
You'll most likely need to swap your input shaft from your 249 into it so you will need a 1995+ as the gear cut was changed that year (1994 production model but 1995 year model.) And it is always possible you'll need to shorten the driveshaft, but no one can seam to figure that problem out. Some people have to and others don't. I did for mine I know that.
