Definitely looks like you have a pinion seal leak on the D30, but it's unrelated to the fluid on the t-case.

I would fix the D30 leak for sure, and keep an eye on the fluid level in the t-case to make sure it doesn't drop dangerously low.

ok i know i have to -
- replace the pinion seal on the Dana 30
&
- replace the transfer case output seal.

it seams odd that they went out at a bit over 42K on a 02 but since others have this problem at over 100K. anyway i am going to fix this on put it on my jeep to do list that keeps getting longer

looking at the info on how to do these and i think i manly need the special tools which i can rent. i am going to ask the dealers how much they charge and if it a fair price i will just pay them. but i think i am going to do it myself.

for the seals dose is one brad better then another?

i found for the TC seal but dose not say its for the 247 AutoZone.com | | Transfer Case (Seal) | TRANSMISSION SEAL
and the only pinion seal i find is for the Dana 35 not 30 AutoZone.com | | Pinion Seal - Front | SEAL

Personal opinion here -- unless they are dripping on the floor, neither one of those leaks appear to be all that bad. Looks more like some oil seepage around the seal as opposed to a real leak that could cause you a problem.

Personally, I would clean up the area and periodically check the TC and dif fluid levels. If no difference in fluild level over time (or dripping), then you know this is more cosmetic then a real mechanical concern. Most jeeps have some seepage/leaks around the TC/Dif seals.

Your call.

the transmission seals should be the same as the out put on the TC. when i was rebuilding my 249, the person helping me crushed the new output seal for the front. I was able to match the seal at a pep boys. it was listed at the transmission seal for my 98zj, but matched perfectly.

so 2hrs, a bunch of swear words, and $9 later i had a new seal which i installed so this person couldn't mess it up.

the seals should be the same.

1. Your t-case fluid looks black, change it... Use ONLY the MOPAR fluid.

2. Unless the pinion seal is dripping, leave it alone. The seal is very difficult to change unless you have experience with rear diffs.

3. The rear output of your 247 takes about 10 mins to change. I find this is a seal that requires changing about every 50K miles. Also check the snap ring access plug above the t-case. There is an updated part to replace the factory POS plug.

I recently replaced the seal on my rear diff, it was quite easy. Unless the front diff is significantly different, it shouldn't take long at all.

that link you posted is a good way to wreck a rear end. Setting up the pinion pre-load requires a tq wrench, not marking the nuts position.
