surco roof rack

im looking to buy one off summit here in the next few months.

the only problem i'm running into is how to mount it. summit directs me to a whole new set of cross rails and i didnt see anything that would mount to the factory rails. i was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on fabbing my own or if there is a write up which i didnt find during my search..

thanks

I can't remember what they were called, but when I had mine it used 4 little J hooks to go underneath the factory roof rails and a flat piece on top that acted like a clamp and was tightened down with a nut.

it works like the u-bolts on a leaf sprung axle. i dont see you having any issues fitting it to your factory roof rack.

you know, to be quite honest, even after taking a few glances, i dont see how those things attach to the rails.. after searching around more i figured these were the ones to get..

that is pretty much the same as your cross rails...
those are usually used for paople that dont have factory cross rails...

if i were you id use the ones YHC2000WJ posted you want your roof rack to sit as low to your rig as possible...
if i were you id buy the rack and then see what is the best point to mount it and how can you get it to be at its lowest point....
on my roof rack i took my cross rails off and slid them in the rack and then had to trim a little on the side to make it work....

my rack now sits 1 inch away from the top of the jeep... most peoples racks sit up pretty high up... all that is gonna do is kill your mpg more than it will if you have it lower... but no matter what your MPG is gonna drop.

Whoever stole your lab must have taken it a LONG ways away. Both my labs I had in Minnesota came walking in the driveway after we gave them to a friend - who lived almost 30 miles away!! They had to walk through town and navigate two bridges to get across the river to get back to us. They even showed back up after our friend locked them up. They got out and came back again!!

My dog cant find the front door if its right in front of her. Does that make my dog special?

Can you post some pics of how this mount is connected to your Surco and siderails?
