Stuck in limp mode...help!!!

My '95 Grand Cherokee is stuck in limp mode & won't shift past 2nd gear unless I rev it up to 4000 rpms & let off the gas. After shifting past 2nd, I have to feather the gas pedal to keep it from downshifting back to 2nd where it gets stuck. I have read I should check the TCM. Where is that located on the tranny? Any & all suggestions to get my Jeep out of limp mode would be really helpful & appreciated! Thanks!

check your tranny fluid in neutral while running and full temp. my jeep sometime doesn't shift properly i find by shifting through the gears it helps it out. but might not help you.

Its throwing a 26 for the tranny code. Any thoughts on what that means? It has something to do with the governor sensor?

According to the haynes repair manual.. a code 26 is " the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR ) control solinoid valve - the pcm controls the amount of egr flow with the egr control solinoid valve (1993 through 1995 5.2L models only)" hope this helps

Likely a bad Governor Pressure Sensor. Usually replaced together with the Governor Pressure Solenoid Valve.

First check for damaged wires, bad connections, etc. at the Solenoid Case Connector. This is the cabling between TCM and internal Governor/OD electrical components.

This will give you an idea what is involved. Can be done without removing the tranny, just dropping the pan...

95 doesn't have a TCM and also doesn't have a limp mode. Nobody else thinks its possible his throttle cable to the tranny is way out of adjustment?

I have a 1991 Cherokee Laredo that is a 4x4. Will the shifting selinoids interchange? I'm trying to get this tranny issue resolved so my wife has a reliable vehicle but I'm doing the mechanics myself on a shoestring budget!

I believe a '91 Cherokee should have an AW4, completely different design than out 42re and 44re...

what vehicle do you have? there are two possible transmissions in a 95 and a 4.3 wasn't a motor option. lol.
