Stock Flex

So I was just curious, how much can a ZJ flex stock? (If this thread has been done already send me a link) but I was looking for some pictures and stuff...I think i heard once that in order to get a decent flex you have to disconnect the front sway bars? Is this correct?

The reason I'm asking is because I was playing around at work a bit, I drove up on a corner of a curb (so both passanger tires were up, and only the front drivers side tire was up) trying to get the drivers rear tire off the ground, but I guess it wasn't high enough because it still touched the ground... It felt like i was leaning a lot though going up, so How much is too much? How much can you drive or lean without being in risk of roll-over? I always feel like I'm going to tip over, and yet when you get out, it doesn't look that bad.

It takes alot to rollover, or a perfectly designed obstacle. Its easy to lift tires off the ground in a stocker and still be not even be close to rolling.

Disconnecting your front sway bar will increase flex dramatically.

Disco the rear as well, though the difference won't be as dramatic it will help.

When your Jeep is lying on it's side you will know how far is to far!

Disco'n the rear will help when going through poser flex ditches, but on a real trail you still want the rear connected

okay, so a couple follow-up questions:

1) What is the purpose of the Sway bars
2) How do I disconnect them? How long does it take?
3) They should always be on for normal driving, but for trails it's more benificial to have them off?

Also, if you can estimate:

How many inches can the right side be up in the air over the left side (or vice-versa)

IE - Passanger side on the curb, drivers side on street, how high can the passangers side be up and still be in a safe zone?

Thanks!!!

They prevent excessive body roll...

4 bolts, but if you order JKS quick disconects its 4 pins.

Just more beneficial to have the front off...you still want the rear one to stabilize in off camber situation.

Theres no measurement inches as to how far over you can go...

To "flex out" you want to get two opposite corners on higher elevation...

It takes a lot more than 'inches' to roll...

Dont worry about it.

I would argue against this. The rear sway bar will limit flex, thus less traction on the trail. If you are running high speed trails you will want to keep them connected to keep it more stable.

Either way I doubt it really matters due to your "curb flexing" off roading style.

Actually, I do a lot more then just "curb flexing" i just got bored at work today... I go on trails a lot down in S. Jersey by my school...but i'm home for the summer now and working 70 hours a week at my summer job which doesn't allow for me to get out much...

However eventhough I've been on trails, I haven't done a lot of flexing because I could never figure out why it didn't work well without having the cabin lean so far over I was pratically holding onto the steering wheel...but next time i go out, I'm definitly going to try the sway bar thing...

There aren't any trails in Jersey, unfortunately. Dirt roads? plenty of those
What is in that pic, Wharton or colliers mills?

Actually it was on some roads behind the Renault Winery down in Egg Harbor Township... I go to school down in Stockton, so it's only about 15 minutes from there. Whats weird is those trails are on the map as roads..it's apparently called Naegeli Street...but as you can see from the picture...it wasn't an ordinary road...

Bring me your dub and I'll find out

How will knowing the amount of degrees you can go to help you? You're going to keep a gauge with you on your dash that says what your at ? You can only go by feel and having a spotter saying, dude your about to flop back off....especially since all the terrain is so different everywhere.

Yeah, there is no certain angle when you will flip. Sometimes when your tires are in mud you are like sticked, and won't roll even if you are beyond theoretical limit. Sometimes there is enough to hit something, that will bump your side up, and you roll far before theoretical limit. So knowing theoretical maximum angle is useless. Unless you are doing it in the mall parking
