Stock axles with larger tires

I have heard that the stock axles on a 4.0 zj with 31s or above will make it "slow as a turtle" but is it really all that bad? It's not like I would be using my zj for racing or and s*** like that. As long as it gets me from point A to B and I can go wheeling. Any input?

What gear ratio do you have

I have 31s on my 4.0 and they do really well with 3.73 gears

If you don't know what they are, request a build sheet from Chrysler or check the metal tag on the differentials

I have 31's with 3.55 ratio and I get around fine. Hell, I can move pretty quick if I goose it.

This is my second 4.0L so I don't know the power comparison to the 5.2L, but I have no trouble getting up to speed if necessary. I honestly didn't notice the difference from stock tires.

Yeah it wasn't too much for me either.
Except it was easier to burn a little rubber with stock tires lol

I have 33's with 4.56, steel bumpers, on a 4.0, and I get around just fine.

my 5.2 on stock whipped me back when i floored it the first time (my god, i can't imagine what a niner would feel like). my 33" on 3.73 doesn't give me that whip anymore.
