when my cruise control wasnt working correctly it turned out to be only a cracked vacuum line under the batery tray.
the same vacuum line problem had also been keeping my vents from changing direction

hope this helped

My cruise is also in need of some diagnosis. On mine I pulled the vacuum line off of the actuator and could distinctly hear the vacuum release indicating there are no leaks in the system. The reservoir looked good when I pulled it out as well.

I then pressed the steering wheel switch to activate the cruise control system and measured 12V at the actuator harness. Sometimes it's the switch on the steering wheel that fails, not the case on this vehicle. I'm hoping to get my hands on a good actuator and see if it will fix the problem.

I think my cruise light in the dash is burned out too.

my 95 Orvis never had a dashboard light. Asked the same week I bought it off the lot, they told me it did not come with it. My 94 ZJ did not have it either.

OK so I pulled out the cluster to confirm that a cruise light was not ever installed in my '93. I probably confused it with a '97 that I drove a long time ago.

I replaced the actuator and the cruise still doesn't work. My next guess is that the cruise control isn't getting the signal that the Jeep is above the cutoff speed. I'm going to check for the harness chaffing noted in a 1996 TSB. Maybe that's the issue?

No light on cruise control.. I think it was a 96+ thing..

You sure the switch is working?

I noticed the other day my brake lights were staying on when i turned off the jeep, if it was sticking it could cause the cruise to not come on at all as well. It did this last time it got cold as well.. oh well

Yeah the light must have been a '96 and up thing. I have 12V at the actuator so I know the on/off switch is working. In fact tonight on my way home I was able to get the cruise to work for a maximum of 10 seconds or so. It only worked two or three times. I'm going to double check all of my vacuum lines and the wiring harness where it passes around the transmission.

Good question. Are the systems similar? The WJ is still vacuum operated right?

I need to check my CC vacuum tomorrow. Unfortunately my dad had someone install an aftermarket keyless entry and it looks like a rats nest under the dash. There may be an issue with the installer tapping into the brake signal for the CC.

Dunno, thats why I asked. I know about WJ's CC system pretty well though, I had to diagnose my own at one point.

ah, that may be a 99-02 thing. My light is left of the odometer in the cluster.
