Steering Shaft Replacement Options

Hey guys,

Got a decent amount of slop in the steering shaft (gear box to column) so I'm looking into some replacement options.

Found this on jegs and figured it might be possible, but I'm not sure:

Let me know what other replacement options ya'll have found. Not interested in a junkyard shaft and definitely not paying the dealer an ungodly amount.

Thanks for the help guys.

-Cory

A little experience. I replaced it on both my ZJs. $60 from the dealer way back when. They are $92 now. I see the 98 is $171. I would find out what the difference is because Borgeson makes a direct fit for 93-95 ZJ. Otherwise I guess you could measure and spec out the right Borgeson or Flaming River shaft.

I need to figure out if the Borgeson 93-95 version will work on the 98.

I thought the only difference between 93-95/96-98 was the crush capability and it looks like the 93-95 Borgeson has that.

Anyone have any insight?

Way old post I know, but not finding anything out there if the Borgeson shaft will work on a '98. Contacted Borgeson and their response was, "we never tested it on a '98."

The steering column end connection (pinch bolt) of the intermediate shaft is different between the two, as are the steering columns. The earlier steering column shaft is larger and straight, the later column shaft necks down considerably at the end.
