Steering seems a bit too hard, started some time ago

Hello,

For a month or two I've been noticing that my steering wheel is perhaps slightly harder to turn than it used to be. It feels a bit stiffer. I think it's a tiny bit and nobody foreign to Jeeps would notice anything wrong but as I drive it almost every day, I detect every little issue. For example, I remember I could quite easily use my palm to rotate the wheel at halt but now it's not so easy. Occasionally though it goes better again for a moment. It's my first summer coming up with the Jeep and I began using A/C also 2 months ago. Is it possible that the compressor causes this and the engine doesn't provide enough resource anymore to the power steering system? Sounds a bit odd though...

I also checked the power steering fluid level and it's within limits.

Thanks!

Did you grease the steering linkages? There are greasable joints that have grease nipples on them. The upper ball joints also have grease nipples. The nipples may be hard to spot if they have never been used before since they will be caked over. Use a moly fortified grease.

Hopefully those joints won't be to excessively worn down from lack of lube.

you can also adjust the steering box to be tighter or looser. You loosen the nut on the top then turn the allen screw. you want to do it in small increments though (1/8-1/4 turns). It might just help the little stiffness you are feeling.

Thanks a lot! I haven't greased or changed the fluid yet, will try that. I also checked that the A/C being on does perhaps create most of that difference. But the steering box adjustment seems to be a very interesting item! I love things that can be adjusted I will try it ASAP.
