will this kind of project be difficult for a guy who only really knows how to change his differential fluids, transfer case fluids and basic things like that? or should i just bring it to the mechanic?

That level of skill is plenty to do the over-center adjustment (the nut on top of the box). If you're decent at figuring things out, the writeup is probably enough to get you through the process of doing the bearing preload adjustment too.

Tightening things up after a lift install and found a clunk in my steering box, can actually see the sector shaft move a touch within the box. Found this thread.. thanks.

Have others had the slop in sector shaft and adjusted it out successfully or did you end up with a reman steering box or replacing bearings? My apologies if i missed that.

steering wheel alignment

I have a 99 Grand and the steering wheel is off center by about 90 degrees when the wheels are straight. I was wondering if that is in the steering box or what the deal is or how to fix it??

Your drag link needs to either be lengthened or shortened
