I have a 93 gwagoneer 318 all time 4wheel drive 3.73 w/open diffs. I am running 30-9.50-15 ko's still have original 225/75/15 spare. My next tires will be 31/10.50/15 do I need to match my spare? At least in size.

Yup, and you probably should have had a matching size spare with the 30s as well. If you're not lifted, you're not getting away without trimming to fit those 31s.

Yes you need 5 matching tires and rotate the spare in with oil changes.

I've got a 2" bb lift, 1.25" spacers on the rear and an arb front bumper so I shod be ok on the 31's.

Do not even use the stock spare with 30 inch tires. You will destroy the viscous coupler in the transfer case

The stock tire size is a 28.3" tire. FYI.

Same here, mine came with a donut spare, luckily never needed to use it. Missed the TSB/recall for 249 TC's for the full size spare.

What about using the stock spare with 31x10.5x15 but just not using 4wheel? Still bad?

If you have the 249 transfercase yes, that's a bad idea.

With a 249 you are always in full time. If you have 2wd then you don't have a 249.

Yea I have the 242. So with those size tires and only in 2wheel the stock spare can still be used?

It could, but I wouldn't do it for an extended period of time. I wouldn't use it any longer than getting to the local tire shop
