I've had this system for a few years, and I'm quite happy with it. I bought this Pioneer at best buy for a hundred bucks. The sales guy got me to buy it when he told me that it's hard to get a cd to skip (at the time I was still using cds). He was right, and it has decent sound. I also got myself a Sirius radio, mainly to be able to listen to Howard Stern again. And yes, that is a Zune. I despise apple products

The subs are Volfenhag 12" 1200 watt with dual voice coils, double stacked industrial magnet, and can run 2, 4, and 8 ohm. I picked them up on millionbuy.com for 50 bucks each. I've used them before, and they work just as well as the expensive stuff. I also bought the 2600 watt Volfenhag amp at the same time, for around 150. I threw on a 3 farad cap just to make sure I had no problems with lights flickering or anything (rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 1000 watts on the amp, rounded up). The bandpass box I bought from a friend a long time ago, and it's held up well over the years.

The amp and capacitor are mounted to square stock aluminum, which is then mounted to the box. I wanted full airflow under the amp, so this is what I came up with. I did the cap the same way just for looks. Plus It's a handy spot to run wires through.

I have the amp set so that the subs are giving me bass, but not so much that I'm going to go deaf. I wanted this to add depth to my music. Not that it won't go loud, I have some bass heavy songs that when I crank the volume, the mirrors move out of position

I found all the power connectors on ebay. The brand is xscorpion. I've never heard of them, but the parts are inexpensive and heavy duty.

I like to control the amp myself, so I converted the ashtray into a switch holder. I haven't smoked in 3 years thanks to my electronic cigarette, so it wasn't being used anyway. The tray is actually 2 pieces, the front panel comes off with some persuasion, and hides the screw heads after some clearance work to the back side of the front panel. The switch holder itself is a standard elcheapo holder, turned upside down and spaced with aluminum spacers that I machined real quick.

Now I have a question. I snagged a pair of infinity gold tweeters from a junkyard jeep, but I'm not sure how to hook them up. Do I have to use a crossover, or can I hook them up in parallel with the front door speakers?

You'll definitely need a crossover for them, unless you want to blow them and have to snag another pair. You'll have to measure the impedance of the tweeters. I think they're 6 ohm, but I'm not sure. Based on the impedance, you'll need to add a small capacitor in series with the tweeter. The capacitor will act as a high pass filter. I'd recommend using a capacitor that will cross them at about 3 kHz. If you throw an inductor in parallel with the circuit, you can get the slope you want. Say you have a 4 ohm speaker. You want it high passed at 3 kHz. You'd put a 10 uF capacitor in series with it and a .3 mH inductor in parallel with it. There are charts abundantly available online to help you choose the proper values of the components.

Thanks for the reply. I guess they're going to sit on the shelf until I get a crossover. The tweeters came with caps hooked up to them from the factory. The donor jeep had a stock infinity gold sound system. I would've taken the door speakers, but they were beyond shot. I've thrown away better speakers than those

Time for me to learn about crossovers from google. That's one audio component I've never dealt with yet.

I had to set up my gf's new ipod and install itunes on her laptop. They required a credit card just to set it up to put music on the ipod She will never shop on their store (i have over 170 gigs of music), and it really pissed me off.

OT: I just ordered a pair of passive crossovers for my tweeters. They were 6 bucks on ebay I can't wait to hook them up.

you guys are into a lot more SQ investments then me, but if I was to just replace my door speakers, what are some good 6.5'' recommendations?

one of the local car audio shops I was at the other day said $50 a pair, and since I needed two sets he'd knock $10 off the price of each. I can't remember what they were, but is $80 for 4 new door speakers a good deal?

The fronts are in the door pockets and the backs are in the door. They are velcroed in there so the don't move around.

I love those components. I've got a set of them in my Caprice running them active off a Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS and an old V12 4 channel amp giving them about 175 RMS. They sing.
