Considering I bought my K&N Fipk gen 1 for $20 in the Junkyard, spent $5 for washers to fix the broken mounting hole and $30 for the spectre filters.. I really didn't overpay honestly.. New they are what $250 ?

They are worth whatever someone might pay.

I wonder if you can't make a hybrid of the two. Use the stock box with paper filter but the K&N tube plumbed into the stock box. Some cutting and epoxy maybe?

It would be worth cutting a stock box up to try out. Get a spare from the yard.

But with the FIPK there isn't a positive seal at the TB flange like the stock airhat. Its lame.

Yea it was an area for concern when I had one. I used a gasket and tightened it down well but I still suspected it of leaking from time to time. Also by tightening it down well it developed a crack where the bolt hole was. They sent me a new one no questions asked though. I mean anyone could have called up and they would have just sent one out for free with no proof lol.

That was my concern too.. The GEN 1 uses 1 bolt, and because its so large of a air hat I suspected that when the hood was closed the hood might be pressing on It causing it to be lifted in one spot.. I did buy gaskets for the air hat and throttle body and you should use those for any air hat honestly because I noticed like you mentioned it doesn't sit on the throttlebody right it has little gaps. But the gasket fixed that. My only concern was my hood pushing on it because its deff shiny on the airhat in the front where the hood is lower so I know the insulation is touching it and polishing it.

As for the crack, my FIPK Gen 1 where the bolt goes the whole thing was broken when I found it at the JY leaving a giant hole.. That's why I mentioned I used washers and RTV to seal that up and make a new hole on top to fit a longer bolt.

There shouldn't be any concerns about the air intake. It should be something you can forget, not worry about.

Yea duhh, but you said it youself.. look at my pic see the shiny spot on the bottom left.. That's the hood touching it.. It might just be the insulation but still.. I thought bout putting my camera in the engine bay and closing the hood and see if it does move the air hat or not..
