shock length

I check the FAQ but didnt really see anything that helped, amybe someone can. At this very moment i am ordering the IRO 3.5 kit, and I feel like I can get the shocks a little cheaper then what they are offering( i get a friend discount at an off road custom store here). Does anyone know the collapsed and ext length of the shock that i would need to get? This is on a 95 ZJ

well my bilsteins extended length were 24 front and 25.5" rear but they are loops on both ends. if you would be getting studs on the front then that measurement might be different. i would also like to have them say... 2" longer though, just for more down travel. but youre friend ought to be able to tell you the lengths you need if he works at a shop that does that...

Im hoping that he can help me on the lengths, I just wanted to get a sceond opinion. So in theory i could just droop by autozone, have them show me some stock length shocks and add 3-4 inches of travel to them to get what i need?

If they are gas charged shocks, they might not want to take off the strap that holds them closed, so they fit in the box.

Add ~3.5" to the extended length and keep the compressed length as short as possible. That will maximize travel.

On the rear, the length of the shock limits droop. To maximize flex, you need to decide how much room you have between the shock mounts on full compression, then get a shock that will just fit in that length when compressed. If you extend your bumpstops, you can run longer shocks without having the shocks bottom out, but you don't really gain travel.

On the front, the control arms limit droop. You can measure the front at full extension, and then fit a shock into that length. I don't think the shocks will bottom out on full compression up front?
