Shift Lever

How Do I remove my stock shift lever so I can replace it.

It unscrews from the floor only, they said I could remove just the handle part but I almost lost a tooth trying, they made a chrome one i saw on ebay once and the pic showed the entire unit with a plate at the bottom.
I know that's not much help, but try to put it in neutral and taking(pulling?) it off, I wasn't successful.
PS What do you own?

I tried Pulling it off and that doesn't work. Thanks Anyway
I own a '98 Grand Cherokee V8 5.2 Liter AWD

trust me, they just pull off.Not the easyest job,you may need to wear a helmit

Ok I got it off. but now I don't know what the little black things are that have different sized holes in them. I got the new one working but it doesn't work right going in and outta park
