Seafoam 4.0?

So i finally got my flowmaster 40 today and i got to thinking. While im changing the muffler i was wondering if it wasnt a bad idea to seafoam the engine. Ive had a really rough idle lately and i figured it couldnt hurt. Any opinions?

I've run seafoam through my engine a few times. Always seems to run better afterwards.

Its never a bad idea as long as you think it might benefit and its not going to hurt anything but a few bucks less in the wallet.

How much does a bottle cost usually?

zjosh93 07-11-2013 09:52 PM

about $9 around here

I've tried comparing prices here locally, but I think the Cheapest is $6 at Napa. Course, that's a special, and they've got a BIG sign put front advertizing it. LOL is that I've got 3 cans sitting around that are unopened. 1 can Partially used.

works good in the intake via vacuum hose. crank case is pointless. might help in the gas tank but not much. I use it in the intake whenever I clean out my TB. I run an aftermarket filter so little dust particles slip by. Cleans it out pretty good. Havent found anything better. But I use lucas fuel injector cleaner as well. Like every product its good for one thing. Its not a miracle fix all. Like they claim down at atow zone.

I've used the Seafoam through the vacuum lines to clean intake on two vehichles, my 95 ZJ (145,000 miles) and on my 85 XJ (310,000 miles). The XJ could barely take off from idle it was sputtering and stalling so bad. The Seafoam was incredible in improving it. On the ZJ, there wasn't as much of an issue, but I could sense a slightly smoother acceleration.

I'm one that is usually very skeptical of snake oil, but this stuff doens't hurt and can definitely help.

I have never used Seafoam . I just don't like the way it has to ingested by the engine . Mopar combustion chamber cleaner on the other hand I have used and love . Sprays in and cleans the throttle body while doing so . Also distributes the cleaner more evenly through out the intake .

Did you change your cat when you did your muffler too? If anything, Id be more worried about the cat than the muffler. but even then, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

They do make Sea Foam in a spray can too, among their other products. Its got a handy straw you can use that's pretty long. The straw also has an elbow piece to allow the straw to spray into the throttle body while the air intake tube is installed, this helps for some vehicles that don't run or run very good with the tube disconnected.

I have an 89 Toro snow blower that I add 1/4 tank of sea foam to everytime I use it. It purrs like a kitten. I almost had to rebuild the carb, it surged big time until I seafoamed it. Now I use it as an additive, worked awesome.

We two stroke outboard owners wont fill a tank without it these days. Been using it for years and nothing comes close to cleaning cruddy combustion chambers or injectors and displacing water ( ethanol makes your fuel absorb 20X more water from the atmosphere). Use it in my Jeep about once a month in the tank. ( 1/2 bottle) You can tell the difference.

I put 1/2 can in the gas tank and the rest down the TB recently in my 4.0. It now runs smoother and my mpg went from 14 to 15. Great stuff!!

I seafoam my engine just about every other month or so. Put it in the throttle body with the engine on.
