scored today at the wreckers

Picked up a hood that replaced the one I dented up doing the durango air hat, then popped some extra rlcross bars off an orvis and got some tow hooks, with out the mounts. But when I popped the orvis hood, I found myself a nice new k&n intake. Scoooore. Debating if I am going to install it or not. Could sell it and pay for my new hoood

you shouldve taken the brackets with the hooks. the hooks are no good without the brackets

I want able to get the brackets yet as I had limited tools. What do you need to get the brakcets off? My zj has a bracket to hook it up to a rv so I was thinking I could attach them to that. Are they usually strong?

this, don't try to use them without the mounts. they're the only reason they don't rip out of the unibody.

all you need to get them off is a good 15mm socket, a big rachet, and some time. and a torch if theyll let you bring it in. not sure if you can use the brackets in conjunction with your rv towing brackets. if you dont tow the jeep behind an rv, just get rid of those brackets and put on the real tow hook brackets. dont try to rig up the hooks with anything else, thats just asking to get a hook thru your head, or someone elses.

15mm socket, big rachet. and a torch helps if they let you use it at the wecking yard. theres 4 bolts thru the unibody, and 2 nuts with a stud plate on the lower rad support.

and maybe even a bit of pipe to go over the handle of the ratchet if you need a bit of extra leverage

Who has a k&n on their 5.2? Im not sure if I want to do it. I had the durango air hat and took it off because it didn't seem to run as smoothly.

I have a cool vue CAI that's the practically the same as the k&n. if you run it the computer will have to relearn it. I honestly got about 3 to 4 mpg increase. Not for sure the amount of hp gain but it does get up and go a bit more

The full K&N system on a 5.2 is awesome. I had one on my 97. Night and day difference. But I hear some people getting Amsoil filters to replace the passive K&N filter.

^^This. If you search K&N here on the Jeep forum you'll find several threads that mention the dissatisfaction of the filter qualities.

sorry, can't help but laugh at this.
the stock set up is able to flow as much as the motor ever needs below 4krpm.
the knn only ever adds less than 5hp at 5krpm. even the durango mod is only good for about that much(but at 15$ from most salvage yards it's a much better deal)

what was your mileage before and after? did you go from 8 with a plugged up filter to 12?
