Scary popping noises coming from front end

This is happening when braking and turning either left or right:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7Z9u...ature=youtu.be

Not really noticeable in reverse. This axle I just put together, has some junkyard CV shafts, wondering if those might be the issue. Literally started to do it out of the blue today. Went through all of the suspension and everything is tight.

Sounds like bad cv joints

Rather than fix the cv joints, replace the shafts to u-joint shafts

Yes sound like the CV joint is bad... And it was said to just buy a rebuilt shaft. Only about 60 bucks as I remember and you get a warranty. If you tried to fix it .You'd spend 59.00 and no warranty and spend 3 days getting it going.

I would just buy new shafts.. They are dirt cheap like papitt mentioned and have a lifetime warranty on them.. I replaced my 4.0's recently they had what around 140k miles on them as they were replaced about 10 years ago the originals my moms ex BF decided to slice up in a rage fit temper.. lol anway... They were like $120 total and took me about 4 hours to replace and her Jeep was rusty as heck.. but they went on fine.

I happen to have a set of u-joint shafts sitting around, u-joints are even good on them still. Guess I will pull these shafts out and put the good ones in then.

Had a buddy listen from the outside of the Jeep, he seems to think it's the ring and pinion gear making all that noise. F***.

Changing to my u-joint shafts did nothing.

For sure cv joints, my buddies jeep does this too. We're gonna replace his. Its an easy and pretty cheap fix. Just stick with cvs dont worry about u-joints.

Just saw this post. Seams unlikely that itd be ring and pinion, just from turning? That doesnt sound right. Maybe ball joins somehow? Check that as well.

What kind of t-case do you have in the jeep?

Mine made a popping sound like that and I found out the ring and pinion was breaking (as its popping). The sound from my jeep only made the popping when I was in 4wd and driving forward but was only a pop every few feet.

Maybe its a wheel bearing.

It's the awd t-case. I put this axle together from a load of parts, guess it didn't work so well. So before I break anything I'll just sell the 3 D30's I've got lying around and try to make back some $$ and pull a 3.73 D30 from the junkyard.
