Rustys Off Road Cold Air Intake

Just installed my cold air intake system from Rustys Off Road. Installation was very simple took about 15min + a trip to Autozone for a longer 1/2" rubber hose. Shipping took about 5 days, ordered it Friday, received it Tuesday.

Took it around the block and I notice a big difference in acceleration. I did also notice a slight whistle when I'm idling and I'm not too thrilled about the K&N filter and its rough reputation.

overall I give it a 8/10,

Heres some pictures!

That wistle is probably the air going through your throttle blades or something to that effect. I have it alot on my honda since I have a sort of cold air intake. But if you are going to make this somewhat a "cooler" cold air intake, don't ya think a heat shield is in order?

Yea was pondering ideas of how to build a effective heat shield. Thinking of picking up some abs plastic from home depot.

x2 The TB spacers worked well on older 4.0L's, but on the WJ they are a waste of $. I don't remember the exact #'s but on the older 4.0s the spacer added something like 20-30% more volume to the intake runners. The WJ's 4.0L intake manifold was redesigned with much more volume. The same spacer only increases the WJ's intake volume by ~ 5%.

Also, OP do you realize you paid about $130 for that orange rubber hose? With no heat shield, your setup is just as good/bad (whatever makes you feel better) as the $30 "CAI's" on ebay. Hell, I made something similar in order to facilitate swapping out my windshield washer fluid for a ZJ bottle. I left the box over the TB on, used a 3" to 3" rubber connector ($3), 3" PVC street elbow ($3), and a K&N Filter ($30).

TB is debatable subject, but the exhaust is far from pointless.

I just went with kolak setup for the exhaust.

Yea I realize what I paided for and I'm happy with it. Thats the main reason I posted this thread. I saved 100$ from buying the K&N setup and all I need to do is Fab up a nice heat shield.
