rusty rims

i have chrome cragar soft 8's and theyre rusting pretty bad because of all the salt on the roads, anyone know any way to get the rust off??

wire brush on a drill... the prime with rustoleum and paint with black rustoleum paint.... then what the heck clearcoat it

I used a wire brush but I didn't have a drill and then did the same with rustoleum as above but this was on my antique boat trailer, probably would have cleared them if it was on my other boat.

oh !!! they're chrome.... mmm ... I guess maybe a chrome paint but I don't know what it would look like..

If you were to paint them .
you would have to scratch all the chrome with sandpaper, to make the paint stick..

I used to do this ALL the time...

Use a light steel wool with water/glass cleaner. Soak the rim god and start scrubbing away with the steel wool. You'll find that (if you use a light "grit" steel wool) you won't have any scratches in the chrome at all when you are done. An added benefit of doing it this way will leave then as shiny as they were when new.

Apply a good coat of wax on them when your done and they're back to new!

aluminum foil and coca cola.... cleans chrome realy well.

x2. Light grit steel wool will take the rust off. You could also use a very mild rubbing compound or polish with the steel wool. Try in a small area just to make sure it doesn't scratch, but it shouldn't
