a rookies guild to progressive jeep upgrades

ok guys so as the name says i was thinking of making a list that new jeep comers can turn to. for example a snorkel is something that will never lose its functionality no matter how expensive or cheap you take your jeep. now if you buy a BB whit shocks if you want a 3.5 lift later the components you bought will be obsolete and you will think back and say why dident i spend the little extra and buy future progress. im not a jeep expert(far from it my specalty is toyota land cruisers and some rovers)but it would be nice if we could make a step by step guild for members to progressively build there jeep the right way

1.basic maintenance(high flow water pump, brakes fix brake flush, checking to see if your jeep can be built yet or does it need restoration and 80% of time a vc replacement)
2.snorkel kit or budget boost or a lift that has room to grow later( here i need your guys suggestions on what steps from here) new shocks
3.intake exhaust better t case and gearing
4.optimized tires and arb lockers

if all the jeep geniuses pitch in maby this will help new guys along whith out having to answer same questions over and over again. alot of people will see this and think"ok this is the route i can go whith out having to spend money on the same thing later but this go around better made or taller" or what ever may be the case

maybe you should learn to spell first. and there is a faq sticky for the new guys (such as yourself) but they still neglect to read it. what makes you think this thread will be any different?

gee thanks because the criticism of spelling is such such a big help that's exactly what i wanted.im building my jeep and i can find what i need but my younger friend that just turned 17 is lost in links and i figured maby others are too sorry for trying to help

i know the basic info is there but maby a list format will help out a little more so instead of seeing what they can do and build it is simplified into 123 steps that they can all see and easily understand(because when there is a new guy the limitless and proven threads can become easily confusing. in not new to off roading just jeeps i have been a Toyota guy for years and rallied when i was younger. all im suggesting is maby we can make it as simple as 123 list because the faq's give you a list and basically says pick what department you want to read vs here is a starting point these are the optimal routes to take and just post number what ever and then the link that is in the faq for them to see.i just tell my younger friend to read through but the info is there he just doesn't know where to start and i with experience i know what to read and what should i do first

As well intentioned as this idea is, it won't really work. You can't cover all the types of builds with a catch-all list.

Everyone's idea of "built right" is going to be different, you'll have vastly different budgets and end points for a build. If I was to build something to run JeepSpeed, it is going to be different from the guy who wants to build a daily driver or a rock crawler. I might not need a snorkel if I plan on playing in the rocks all the time. And ARBs are great, except that you'd most likely need to pair them with an axle swap. Or you'll get the "I read the guide about my VC, but they say they don't sell one for my 4.0/242 combo" type threads.

You'll also get a ton of different opinions on what "progressive" means. Some will think that buying their tires first, then lifting around them is the right way to go. Or that they build it to the nines and then add some recovery points. Maybe They just want front and rear bumpers first and then add lift and tires. Maybe gearing isn't an issue becuase it won't be driven on the road a lot. You'll also have a lot of fun with recommending "a better transfer case".

This is a good idea, buuut like others said, it's really impossible to know what someone is trying to build. The best way to do it in my opinion is to have your friend read other guys BUILD threads. Find some that are crazy built up, and others that aren't (like mine). Pick what he wants to go for, do the mods he can afford. Stuff like that.

I learned a lot about different lifts and stuff reading builds, plus its just fun to see other Jeeps progress.

75% of new ZJ owners are cheap asses anyways, so half the responses would be, 'i know thats the 'right' way to do it, but i'm on a 55$ budget. any cheaper alternatives?'

i know ARBs are the best, but is there a cheaper locker that is open on teh road and locked solid on the trail?
i know Bilstein are the best, but can i use rough country?
i know F150 coils will ride like a dumptruck, but is it that bad?
i know death wobble is inherent in cheap lifts, but i've searched for hours and i'm pretty sure my death wobble is unique. what could it be?
i know my jeeps 17 years old, and have 400k on it, but why does it feel like things are worn out? do i need to replace them with my lift?
i know my 4L will suck with 33s but i can't aford a regear. is it that bad? i just want it to perform like stock. will a throttle body spacer help?


all sarcastic ******* comments aside, yea it would be a great idea; however there are a lot of things stickied already (as some have stated) the problem is everyone seems to have a different idea, or somethings just a little different, so they're gonna post up anyways. and some folks will mock (usually me depending on my grumpiness level) or just answer your question thats been asked 100x (also usually me, but only after someone else tells the guy to use the search function)

all that said!

if you wanted to make said guide, rule # 1 to modding ZJs.

#1. you better have deep pockets that replenish themselves easily
#2 if #1 doesn't apply to you buy a Yaris or Aveo and enjoy your gas mileage.
