rock sliders

ok so today i bought my first welder, millermatic 180
nice machine, i've already had alot of practice welding, just never had my own

so now i'm looking to start my rock sliders, and where else to start then with plans?
anybody have plans they've drawn out on the computer they want to share?
what would you guys suggest for metal to use?
i was planning on doing a tubular outer rail also
and this may be a stupid question.. but i've never bought metal before...
does home depot have the kind of thing i'm looking for?

HD does sell small pieces of metal, like 2x2x1/4" angle iron or some 2" flat stock or smaller sizes, but nothing that'll really be helpful for sliders (except some angle iron). That and HD sells it for a HUGE markup.

ie: I think I once paid like $25 for a 4' section of 2x2x1/4" angle iron where when I but it at a metal supplier, I was paying like $8 for the same piece.

So look for a metal supplier...here there is a Surplus place that sells stuff for quite a bit cheaper, but you're subject to what they have in stock.

agreed, HD doesn't have much that is useful for what you want. They also don't have anything over 6 ft.

Arlo, what is the surplace place? I have wondered where a good place to get steel is around here.

I order our stuff at work from Mcmaster-Carr (404) 629-6500. its reasonably priced and they have everything, steel, aluminum, titanium, stainless, copper, carbon fiber, plastic, plexiglass... sheets, pipes, tubes, blocks, all sizes, finishes, and thicknesses.
they also have everything else you could think of - tools & supplies
and they take phone credit card orders. and can find everything on-line at http://www.mcmaster.com/
